Description:

First want to thank Thaya Kareeson for his wonderful idea of WP Greet Box for WordPress.

I named it Blogger Greet Box.This plugin lets you show a different greeting message to your visitors depending on their referrer url. For example, when a Digg user clicks through from Digg, they will see a message reminding them to digg your post if they like it. Another example, when a visitor clicks through

from google search they will see a message suggesting them to subscribe to your RSS feed. Having

these targeted suggestions will help your blog increase exposure, loyal readership, and reader

interaction so all together it should increase your page hits.

To try:

Go to Google.com and search for search term like “Classic Tutorials” or “WP Greet Box for

blogger” and navigate to this site and you will see a message saying that you came from google.

Now try the same with yahoo search and see the message changes.

Features:

1)Show a different greeting message to your visitor depending on the referrer URL.

2)Beautiful set of icons.

3)Greeting message can be inserted any where but better to use on the top as shown in classic

tutorials.

4)Shows a default greeting message if the user hits the URL directly or comes from a referer

which is not specified.

5)Ability to remove the message when the user navigates within the same site so we do not keep

nagging them with greeting messages.

6)Currently the following referrers are installed. I will update the list and the change will

automatically be reflected with everyone using this plugin. So its totally automatic and you dont

need to do code changes and staffs..

  1. Google
  2. Yahoo
  3. Digg
  4. Stumbleupon (26thApril,2k9)

You can help me know which referer you want urgently so that i add them first.

Changelog:

1.0

Initial release.

1.01 (26thApril,2k9)

Added Stumble upon.

Modified CT link to mouse hover

Live Example:

This blog has the plugin installed and so you can test it here itself.

Installation Steps:

Just copy the code and paste it and it will show up. Just follow two configuration.

1) Search for “Give your feed url here” and replace my fed url with yours.

2) Search for “List your domains where you dont” and replace it with your domain name.

<script src="http://kaushik259106.googlepages.com/TextToBeDisplayedDiv.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<div id="mainDisplayDiv" style="background:#F8F8FF;border:1px solid #B6AFA9;display:none"><div id="dynamicContentDisplayed">
</div><script type="text/javascript">// Give your feed url here
var feedURL = "http://feeds2.feedburner.com/blogspot/ct";var dynamicHTMLText = displayRequiredText(feedURL);
document.getElementById("dynamicContentDisplayed").innerHTML = dynamicHTMLText;</script>
</div><script src="http://kaushik259106.googlepages.com/HideShowDiv.js"
type="text/javascript"></script><script type="text/javascript">
//List your domains where you dont want to show up. Suppose
//when people navigate within your site and you dont want to
// show up. This is , seperated
var myRestrictedDomainList = "classictutorials.blogspot";showHideDiv(myRestrictedDomainList);</script>

All the best. You can mail me so that each time i do some update i can let you know. Put subject as “Update me with Greet Box changes” so that i can email as a group.

Also remember that this plugin is not only compatable with blogger but is compatable to any website where you can use HTML/JavaScript. So use it where ever you want.

It’s a really nice idea. Unfortunately the “hide” feature (implemented with the restrictedDomainList) doesn’t seem to work.

Not on my site when I implement it nor on this site.

When I come to this site e.g. from google I see the google greeting and when klicking on a link here I see the general message and it stays.
It does not hide when I browse this site.

    Why?!

    Hi Lisa,
I have published your comment here. Sorry for the inconvenience caused.I will look into the comment issue.

    Regarding the text change:
If you want to change the text i would suggest you t do the following.
Download the following JS http://kaushik259106.googlepages.com/TextToBeDisplayedDiv.js and change it as required and upload the file somewhere in your website. Once uploaded change the above script to point your server file. IF you need detailed help let me know

    Hi!

Firstly, I couldn't leave a comment, the comment box was cut off on your site!

Secondly, the main reason I'm emailing/commenting – I'd love to use this comment box, however, I'd like to edit the text used in the box. Is there a way to have access to the file so that I may edit and resave it to use?

    Thanks again!

  5. temao says:

Thank you Kaushik, I’ll try it later :)

  6. Kaushik says:

    @temao:
Actually you can paste it any where in your web page code and it will show up. If you are doing in blogger just go to Dashboard –> Layout –> Add a gadget and add a html/Javascript gadget. Within it paste it and place the gadget where ever you want!

  7. temao says:

Where should I paste this code?

  8. 7th heaven says:

Thank you soo much for this.

  9. Kaushik says:

    :) thats ok…

You don’t need to do anything from your side. Everything is perfectly working on the wazzup-web.blogspot.com blog. Enjoy.Yesterday your issue was fixed.
There are some minor issues which i will fix in this weekend if i get time but it wont bother your blog :) Cheers!

  10. wazzupweb says:

hi again kaushik!! hows your day? btw, please dont think that i’m stupid but, i dont get wat u just said..

Currently i have done a small fix which will fix the issue but “Restricted domain” feature wont be available now

Please tell me what should i do to fix the bug…?? hehe thank u again!! please dont get mad at me if i have so many questions… :lol

  11. Kaushik says:

Ya thanks for pointing that bug… Currently i have done a small fix which will fix the issue but “Restricted domain” feature wont be available now.(You dont need to make any change as its working on your blog :) ) I will look into it but in the mean time you can go on with this. Let me know if its working. I saw your blog and it was working…

  12. wazzupweb says:

i have a simple problem…. i thought, for example, a user came from google, there will be a unique message? i tried to google my blog and the message that appeared in my blog is “Hello there! If you are new here, you might want to Subscribe to RSS Feed for updates.”

In your screenshot, it says, “welcome googler”

    :(

please help me.. thank u so much!!

  13. wazzupweb says:

ahh!!that’s so cool!! now i get it!! you’re so great!! Keep up the good work pal!! btw, thank u so mcuh for this!! i’ll try it now on my blog!!

  14. Kaushik says:

^^^ ya u should replace it with your domain name. Let me try to explain you this feature. Suppose you search for “classic tutorials” in google and you come to this site you can see the greet box but now say you clicked any URL in this blog… Say for example any tag on the left side from tag cloud you don’t see the greet box any more. This is done to stop nagging the user. If you don’t want this feature keep the variable value as it is and the feature won’t work. Does this helps?

  15. wazzupweb says:

what do you mean by this? “List your domains where you dont want to show up. Suppose when people navigate within your site and you dont want to show up. This is , seperated” i’m sorry i don’t get it… :( if my site is wazzup-web.blogspot.com

    var myRestrictedDomainList = “classictutorials.blogspot”

    should i change classictutorials.blogspot to wazzup-web.blogspot

    is that it?

    thank u!!!

    @ Realtrix
    Added Stumble upon. Cheers!

Regarding bandwidth i am also thinking the same. Any alternative idea you can suggest?

  17. Realtrix -Web 2.0 Tips & Tricks says:

I am new here … really nice tips … Can you Update the Script with Stumbleupon ?? I want to use it in my blog…

GooglePages doesn’t have unlimited bandwidth … The Script Functions will not work after a certain bandwidth is used.. (esp when many ppl will be using it.)

  18. arpi says:

  22. Biswajit says:
