This plugin lets you show a different greeting message to your visitors depending on their referrer url. For example, when a Digg user clicks through from Digg, they will see a message reminding them to digg your post if they like it. Another example, when a visitor clicks through from google search they will see a message suggesting them to subscribe to your RSS feed. Having these targeted suggestions will help your blog increase exposure, loyal readership, and reader interaction so all together it should increase your page hits.

For anyone who don’t know much about the previous version should check this URL. It all started more than 2yrs back. If you want to check all previous versions here it is.

Today this Greet Box is used by thousands of sites which gets tracked in my  analytic account. Not sure how many are using after removing my analytic code. So end of the day its serves the purpose.

3)Greeting message can be inserted any where but better to use on the top as shown in classic

4)Shows a default greeting message if the user hits the URL directly or comes from a referer

6)Currently the following referrers are installed. I will update the list and the change will

automatically be reflected with everyone using this plugin. So its totally automatic and you dont

need to do code changes and staffs..

Search suggestions

 Some of the most interesting topics are “Anytime” and “Standard View”.

“Anytime” gives a way to sort result based on time like last 24hrs or Past week etc. Very interesting if you want to monitor your site very closely.

Another interesting things to look for is the “Timeline”. Though this is available for sometime now at http://www.google.com/experimental/ as “Alternate views for search results”.

This is how it looks.

And the most interesting one is the “Wonder wheel”.

What is this?

This will show a Flash-based interactive mini app which starts with your keyword in the center, and related terms around it. Clicking on a related term creates a new, connected circle with more related terms. And whenever you click on a term, to the very right, the web results change to reflect your current topic of focus. How to make these things work? 

 1) Clear up your cookies. (Tested on IE7,IE8 and FF3) 

 2) Open http://google.com. Recheck the URL If it changes to http://google.co.in or http://google.ca the you need to click the following link as shown in the screen shot.

 3) Once you open google.com paste the following Javascript on the browser Navigation Box and Press enter.It will create a cookie telling Google that you want to use these features.

And the message says:

URL not allowed
This url is not allowed for a Sitemap at this location.

This error came with blogger!

There is a simple solution for this (Verified and works for blogger)!

Select any one of your sitemap and delete it. Say you deleted the Atom Feed. Now again add the atom feed but as shown below:

You could remove both the feed and replace it with redirect as false but i would suggest to keep at least anyone intact just now to screw up anything.

Today date being 16thJune.. i just clicked on 16th June (Point 1).
Both the date range changes (Point 2)
See the above date range also changed (Point 3)

Thats it.. Click on the apply button and you get the live traffic!

The Problem:

Sometimes you conduct some search on Google and the engine returns a number of results, but when you try to open the ones that looks the most promising you get a registration page. One thing that you can do is click on the cached content to view the page directly from Google’s cache. But what if you want to view another page from the same site, not present in google’s cache?

The Solution:

Its evident that there are some sites that allows Google but not you. So why not disguise yourself as Google? Thats exactly what we will do by changing the browser’s user agent to Googlebot. Copy the following code into notepad and save it as a .reg file

Now double-click the file to merge it into registry. In order to change back to the default user agent use this:

Unfortunately, this only works with IE and not Opera. There is no way to add new user agent in Opera AFAIK. There is some way to do it in Firefox but you have to search that yourself on google. To check whether you have sucessfully changed the user agent, type the follwing into the address bar and hit enter.

Now for some practice. One good example is http://www.governmentsecurity.org/forum/index.php. Anybody who has tried to visit this website will find that it requires you to register in order to view the forum. But registering is tricky. You need to submit your own article to the site afterwhich they will evaluate it and then decide whether to give you membership or not. Now visit this forum after spoofing your IE’s user agent, aaha you are welcomed!!!

Note, that this method might not work with all websites.

Fun Exercise 1:

Use a different browser like Opera or Firefox to login to thinkdigit.com. Then click on Quick Links>Who’s online (you will also find this near the bottom of the page). On the page that opens choose “Search Bots” and hit go. No matter what time of the day or night it is, you will find a couple of googlebots, msnbots and yahoobots crawling on the website. Now open IE and view thinkdigit.com, this time as a googlebot. Refresh the page you were viewing in your other browser. This time you will see another googlebot appearing which is actually you!!

Fun Exercise 2:

On the same “Who’s online” page you can see what thread the other online members and guest are viewing at that particular time. Speaking of privacy, huh?

Here is a plugin newbies can use to work. This is just a plugin for firefox(refered by madcadder below in his comment).
Steps:
1)Just install the plugin(Configuration Mania) in firefox from the site url given below.
2)Once done restart your firefox browser.
3)Go to Tools –> Configuration Mania
4)Click on UserAgent –> GoogleBot
Thats it,now you can run those examples given above.. No need of doing any registry changes.

Here is one more example:

It will ask you for userId and password.
Now switch your browser using this plugin and you dont need any userId or password any more.. Yahoo!
