[A] No, bluetooth was its replacement I guess.

[Q] Can the cover on a QD be removed?
[A] The QD's cover is only held by the two clips you see behind the battery cover. Remove the battery and cover. Push on the two clips a bit to disengage the top part of the cover. Now turn the QD over, keypad side up.
Then, holding only onto the rubber edge, push down hard on the four-way controller, you'll hear a small click and the left side will open up, then do the same thing on the right side, pushing down on the number pad in the area corresponding to the directional pad (2/3/5/6 area) until you hear the click...
To get the cover back on:-
Looking at the front of the phone (keypad), pull the rubber flaps out of the way with your fingers for the power flap, and your thumbs for the card flap.
Line everything up, and push down. It should give you a few solid clicks as you press together the front and back around the edge. And then of course put your battery back in and replace the cover.

[A] Thats because the Nokia suite is only used for access via bluetooth. The USB port detects the MMC card inside the N-Gage as a Masive Storage Device and its excatly the same as using a usb mem stick.

[A] Check that the bluetooth software is installed correctly. The nokia suite doesnt have anything to do with the driver for the device it only runs when the device is on and active. Just like word cant print when your printer drivers arent installed.

Go to menu on your phone. Then extras, log, select options, settings, and the second from the top should be the option to show call duration on or off. Thats how I do it on my original n-gage. Hopes this helps.

Out of Memory?
[Q]:Hey,I have a N-gage QD and ive been able to play tony hawks fine up till now. When i stick it in and click play a message pops up and it says "Out of Memory" How can this be it dosent even have the mmc in?? HELP!!

Yeah you guys are talking about the MEMMORY IN THE N-GAGE ITSELF!!
When you open Fexplorer its shown as:
(The C: Drive)
If you also have an MMC this will be shown as:
(The E: Drive)
1. When you install a game you can choose to put it in the phone memmory ( C: ) or the internal memmory ( E: )
Now if you goto: MENU--->TOOLS--->APP MANAGER. Youll see all the programs.
IF you installed a program in the PHONE`S MEMMORY there will be a
YELLOW CELL PHONE infront of it!!
ONLY DIVX CODEC FOR SMARTMOVIE must be in the phones memmory!!
For the rest...you can delete anny program that has a YELLOW CELL PHONE infront of the files and REinstall it and put it in E:
2: Messages like BLEUTOOTH MMS SMS will also be saved in the PHONE`S MEMMORY!!
( For bluetooth files : )
You can use Fexplorer to find the file in C: Cut it and PASTE it in E:
3: If you fail installing a game program files can be still saved in: C:NokiaInstall
(all files in this folder can be deleted
4: also stuff you did record can be saved in the phone`s memmory.
5: If all of this DINT work you can reset your phone by typing: *#7370#
(this will make you LOSE ALL you Contacts Sms ect.

LAGGING N-GAGE GAMES
For those who found out that the game lags now and than:
Download and install APPMAN!!
Start the game you wanna play.
Open your Menu ---> Open APPMAN.
Press -R-i-g-h-t->
Now you see al running programs...
Menu C:Men... CLOSE THIS DOWN!!! (Options ---> Close app)
Stand on PHONE ---> Options ---> More ---> Compress Memmory.
Now some more Kb`s get released
Now search for the game you are running STAND ON IT and press: SWITCH TO!!
If it starts lagging once again:
HOLD DOWN the menu button to switch to appman again.
Stand on PHONE ---> Options ---> More ---> Compress Memmory.
Now some more Kb`s get released

Now lets send a file (send a *.jpg file for EXAMPLE!!)
After its sent; open your Fexplorer
- Open E:System
- STAND on the FOLDER: Mail
- Options ---> File ---> Find ---> type *.jpg
Once the file has been found; STAND on it
Options ---> Edit --->Cut
Now open the FOLDER where you want to COPY it to;
Options ---> Edit ---> Paste
And now you have the file on the location where you want it

How to install SmartMovie:
1.1 Copy the files:
SmartMovie_S60_2.42.sis (this is the PLAYER)
Codec_XviD_S60.sis (this is the CODEC)
Into the N-Gage drive. using N-gage PC Suite and A Bluetooth Dongle or using a date cable.
1.2 Disconnect your N-Gage from you PC.
1.3 Open the Manager application on your N-Gage. Go to Menu, Select Tools and then Manager Select the .sis FILES!!!! from that screen.
2.1 In install the converter Converter for PC!! (SETUP.EXE)
2.2 Install_xvid.exe (this is the Xvid codec for pc)
After you have done all this you can start the SmartMovie converter on the PC!!
Click Open and search for the movie/clip etc you want to convert, the mainly accepted types of file
are .avi, .mpg, .mpeg, .m1s, .dat and finally .wmv
Once your desired file has been found double click it and the screen should now open up back to the previous screen saw when first opened except this time there is a movie loaded in the little window.
The top left information in blue shows you roughly how large the file is going to be with the following settings;
Video Settings
LandScape
Reduce Frames: Deactivated
Codec: Xvid Encoder
Bitrate: 96 kbps
Audio Settings
Enable - Activated
Force Mono - Activated
Frecuency: 16000 Hz
Bitrate: 24 kbps
Volume Boost: 250
Before converting it would be handy to decide where your finished product is going to end up, click 'options' then 'preferences' and select the directory where you want your file to be delivered.
These are your main settings, once these are filled in simply hit the convert button and sit back, kick your feet up and wait for the film to finish, the conversion time with these settings should be roughly half the length of whatever it is your converting - so if it's a large movie may aswell go grab a cup of tea for a while .
Once the conversion is finished you want the movie on your phone;
Hook your phone up by USB cable and locate where your new movie was left.
Once found right click and select 'Send To' you should have the option of a new drive at the very bottom, for example mine is the 'H:/ Drive'.
Send the movie on over, disconnect and open up Smartmovie - You may need to perform a scan of your system when looking for the movie once it's found sit back and mission accomplished.

Since we have an abundance of new brats again it seems only right to post what they should be doing with smartmovie.
Smartmovie
First you are going to need a copy of smartmovie, how you obtain this is completely up to you
if like me you want to pay for this amazing application it will set you back $19.98 (U.S, convert this at will)

Load up smartmovie

[Q] How can I convert my home movies to !!RM!! files to put them onto the n-gage?
[A] How to convert a divx/mov/mpeg movie to rm format using Helix Producer Plus 9:
(For mov compress you also need Quicktime installed, otherwise you will only get the audio track converted to rm.)
1. You need Helix Producer Plus 9 installed on your computer.
2. Check if you have all the needed divx decoders installed, if not, go to your favourite divx page and download the latest codecs.
3. Start the program and click [Browse] to add your movie.
4. Go to menu [Edit]-[Audience Templates].
This will open a dialog window with several templates and settings.
Choose any template and edit it like this:
4.1. Template name: You can keep the name or create a new one. I have one saved as "Convert for n-gage".
4.2. Audio/Video Encoding:
4.2.1. Choose Constant bit rate and change it to 70kbps.
4.2.2. Target frame rate: Keep it on 15fps (I've actually converted at 30fps no probs and the files not too big, and a LOT smoother)
4.2.3. Advanced Video Options: Just enable Loss protection and leave the rest.
4.2.4. Voice Codec: 16kbps Voice (G2,RA8)
4.2.5. Music Codec: 16kbps Music
4.3. Audio Only Encoding:
4.3.1. Voice codec: 16kbps Voice (G2,RA8)
4.3.2. Music codec: 16kbps Music
4.4. Click Apply and OK.
5. If the movie has low sound, go to menu [Settings]-[Show Audio Gain Control]
and move the pointer from 0dB to +6dB. Only change it to +12dB if the sound is really LOW.
6. Now click the [Audiences] button and you will find this:
6.1. Encoding Settings:
6.1.1. Audio mode: Music (Keep this one)
6.1.2. Video mode: Normal Motion Video (Keep it too)
6.1.3. Video codec: RealVideo9 (Change this to RealVideo8)
6.1.4. Use high quality resampler for audio (don't change it)
6.1.5. 2-pass video encoding (Enabling this is up to you, you'll get a better conversion but takes twice as long to do)
6.1.6. Resize Video to: Enable this to [172] x [XXX](automaticaly inserted if (6.1.7.) is enabled).
6.1.7. Maintain aspect ratio: (Keep this on)
6.1.8. High quality resize: (Keep this one too)
6.2. Audience Selection:
6.2.1. Templates: Choose the one that you have created/edited and double click to add it to the Audiences in Job.
6.2.2. Audiences in job: Delete all audiences and put in "Convert for n-gage"
7. Now click the [Clip Information] button.
7.1. Edit the following fields:
7.1.1. Title: Leave it blank for now.
7.1.2. Author: Encoded by
7.1.3. Copyright: up to you....
7.1.4. Keywords: Optional
7.1.5. Description: Optional
7.1.6. Rating: Optional
7.1.7. Go to menu [Settings]-[Default Settings]-[Save Current As Default]
7.1.8. Title: Insert the complete movie title
8. Finally go to menu [File]-[Add File Destination] which will open the [Save As] dialog.
Now insert the file name and save it (not in the same folder as the original as i've found this brings up an error and wont encode). Then click the [Encode] button on the lower right corner.
8.1. Every time you want to encode a new movie, repeat steps (3), (6.1.3.), (6.1.6.), (6.2.2.), (7.1.8.) and (8.).
Edit: Also, resize your videos to 176x144 when you convert them, i dont leave maintain aspect ratio on either. It doesnt distort the videos at all, at least not noticably.
Edit2: Also, you can search on google for Multimedia Converter Pro this program converts your movies to *.3gp RealOne Player plays this format and the movies will be about 50MB. [[ Quallity isnt that good but isnt that bad do ]] *.RM files ALWAYS better but for small format verry good

Virus killing:
There is an virus called CARIBE it spreds itself trough bluetooth!! Do this to remove it!!
1-Install a file manager program on the phone.
2-Enable the option to view the files in the system directory.
3-Search the drives, A through Y, for the SYSTEMAPPSCARIBE directory.
4-Delete the files CARIBE.APP, CARIBE.RSC, and FLO.MDL from the CARIB directory.
5-Go to the C:SYSTEMSYMBIANSECUREDATACARIBESECURITYMANAGER directory.
6-Delete the files CARIBE.APP, CARIBE.RSC, and CARIBE.SIS.
7-Go to the C:SYSTEMRECOGS directory.
8-Delete the file, FLO.MDL.

Note: You cannot delete the file CARIBE.RSC when the program is running.

(Now you should be able to let them works it really only works like this on my n-gage, if i put em on mmc or in folder they won be there this is the fix )

Radio hang problem
DO NOT RESET YOUR PHONE!!!
You dont have to reset your phone to fix this problem. When you start radio, hit the 5 button and you should be able to get to the radio menu. Change the radio station you saved with a blank name and put an actual name in and save. Radio hang fixed.
This bug happens if you start to save a radio station and then exit midway, without putting a name!!

[A] The best .ogg audio converter would be dbpoweramp music converter, you can get it from www.dbpoweramp.com Although, you'll need to download one of the 2 .ogg codecs to convert to .ogg format. The 2 codecs can be found here
I recommend the 2nd codec(pentium 4 only) because songs can be about half the size but sound just as good, they sound really good if you convert them at 64kbps.but the 1st codec is the better choice if you don't have a pentium 4 processor, although you have to convert them at 64kbps on constant bitrate(makes them around 1 mb).
EDIT: the sound will play MONO!!

[A] You obviously don't know what MONO and STEREO sound means... Let me explain it to you... Mono means ONE sound channel... Stereo means TWO sound channels. Now, when you listen to something in MONO sound with your headphones, that does not mean it will only play on one of the ear pieces (right or left), that means that what will play will be THE SAME on both ear pieces... Now when you have STEREO sound, you have TWO channels, so one channel will play on the left side and the other on the right side. Which means that what comes out of the left ear piece is not the same that comes out of the right one.
example: imagine that the 1st channel (left one for instance) has the bass, the piano and the vocals and that the 2nd channel (right one) has the strings, the drums and also the vocals... This means that if you listen only to the left ear piece you won't hear any drums (or will hear them far far away, like some sort of echo)... So the n-gage does this stereo thing that makes you feel more like in the center of the band with drums on the right bass on the left etc... while the QD gives you the exact same sounds both on the left and right channels. This also works for games... Imagine that you are playing an FPS (first person shooter) that has stereo sound... Imagine some monster growls at you and that he's on the left side of the screen... You'll hear the growling louder on the left side, while if the game is mono it will sound the same both on the left side and right side...
I hope you have now understood what the concept of stereo sound is.

[Q] Why use *.OGG?
[A] -supposedly half the size of an mp3 of the same quality, but I find they're a lot smaller
-they sound as good as an mp3 of 2 times the bitrate(64kbps .ogg files, and 128kbps mp3 files sound about the same)
So if you use .ogg files and have a pentium 4 processor you can fit about50 songs on a 32 mb mmc, which is A LOT better than about 10 mp3's whic sound about the same thing.

[Q] this is what comes up on my screen when i try to get to my music by pressing the music shortcut key on the left hnd side, next to the radio button, or by goin to menu>media>music....... MUSIC PLAYER:SYSTEM ERROR. the music does work because sometimes, like every 1/50 times i try it loads up and plays and also the music works when i choose to listen to it through profiles, can anyone give me a good reason why this happpens and how to fix it??

[A] To format a new [M]ulit-[M]edia [C]ard simply follow these steps;
Step 1 : open the menu up by pressing the yin & yan type sign on the N-Gage.
Step 2 : hit down to get to TOOLS and select by pushing the d-pad in.
Step 3 : go down to memory and select.
Step 4 : select options with the left menu button and then select format mem. card.
This usually takes a while (roughly ten min with a 128MB card).

Finding files on MMC PHONE MEMMORY

some friend sent me from his n-gage an .aac file, using fexplorer,and the only way to open it is to copy it to the mmc, but i can't find it anyware!(with fexplorer)

C:System--->Now stand on MAIL--->Press options--->File--->Find
Now type the file youre searching for....in this directory you recieve all your mail Sms, Bluetooth, ect.(this is you phone memmory)
When you found the file Stand on it press OPTIONS--->CUT
Go to E: (your mmc) and place it anny where you want.
EDIT: (in this version the person is NOT using MSGdriveE if you are you can find your mail in E:SystemMail)

Corupted MMC`s fix whit 7TOOLS partition manager:

Although this is a demo,even without the advanced functions the demo version is capable of carrying out this task.
Basically install that software & put your MMC into your card reader (don't do this via N-Gage & USB cable)
1. Select the MMC ( do not select the main Hard drives as this software coud delete the contents)
2. If your partition is corrupted you will see several invalid partions in red in the left hand pane (mmc drive section)
3. Right click each of these and left click delete.
4. Click apply (top left button)
5. You should be left with a single free unit on your MMC drive. Now right click that unit and select create primary partition. Go with the defaults which should be FAT16.
6. Click apply.
Exit and put your card back into your N-Gage. If you find that the MMC card still does not mount via the USB cable (That is if it was mounting prior to corruption). Unplug the cable and put your MMC card back into your card reader.
A. Start the 7tools again and select the MMC drive.
B. In the right hand pain you will see a column which says Active (it will probably be set to "no") click this and set it to yes.
That uses up a few MB of your MMC but it makes it an active bootable drive partition.
C. Click apply
D. put the MMC back into your N-Gage and format it via tools-memory-[options]-format mem card.
You will notice that the card is a couple of MB down on it original size but it will now be fully bootable and functional via the USB cable again.
This along with the J2k's excellent MMCmedic or my Multicard formatter (get them in the Down Load section) should save you having to return your MMC's to the shop/manfacturer. Unless they are Kingmax 256 MMC's (they are not N-Gage compatible return them to the place you bought them as soon as possible. Or there is a catastrophic hard ware failure of the MMC)
I tested this with my TEC 512mb, which had a corrupted partitions, it is now a fully usable/bootable via the USB cable.
EDIT: or use PALTOP CARDREADER to format the card!!! (for cardreader make it partition!!!

[A] The MMC has to be read and this can have a delay. Dont worry about it waiting 3-7 seconds isnt the end of the world. I imagine the access rate of the MMC deteriates with a larger MMC.

Well pressing the menu will search the WHOLE mmc on installed software which will drain the battery faster if you have manny stuff installed aight?
Now open your MENU--->options--->MAKE NEW DIR!!--->(name it gamez)
NOW STAND on the game you want in there and puch Options--->MOVE TO DIR!!! sellect gamez
get it? pressing the menu will only show the dir gamez instead of all the stuff installed so less loading.
SO THIS WILL NOT move THE

Step by step instructions to get internet via bluetooth for free
This is totally free because i've checked my net usage on my phone account and it hasnt moved a bit. I've also took precaution and erased all the access points for my ATT GPRS so there is no way it can connect to the net through there.
1. install a bluetooth dongle and all its drivers
2. pair computer with phone, authorize the connection and remember your computer's name that you use to pair the phone with.
3. install pc suite
in your phone
4. go to settings->connection->access points
5. options->new access point->use default settings
connection name: (whatever you ex. bluetooth dsl)
data bearer: GPRS
Access point name: your computer's name, the same name that shows up when you pair the bluetooth with the phone.
user name: none
prompt password: no
password: none (leave alone)
authentication: secure
gateway IP add: 0.0.0.0
6. now go back and you should see the access point you just set up.
7. go back to connection settings->GPRS
GPRS connection : When needed
Access point: your computer's name, the same name that shows up when you pair the bluetooth with the phone.
8. install Opera (internet browser)
9. turn on bluetooth and connect your phone with PC suite
10. if you've done all of these step properly you can now use the internet on your phone via bluetooth connection.

I just checked and....it works I played TOMBRAIDER.
But the walktrough isnt kinda complete... let me fix it.
First make sure that your PC Suite works with bluetooth.
DO NOT and i repeat DO NOT!!! Just configure your mRouter to connect on the same serial port as your bluetooth usb dongle.

Using FExplorer,
1. Open FXxplorer
2. Locate the file you want
3. Select it
4. Go to file
5. Scroll down to “set as op logo” and select
6. It will say Phone must now restart select ok
7. wait for phone to restart and u will have your logo
Using SeleQ
1.Open SeleQ
2.Locate the file you want
3.Select it
4.Go to File

7.Again when phone reboots you will have your logo
The Harder Way(if none of the above methods work)
1.Find a pic you want and transfer it to your MMC
2.Go to a website that will send you a logo (any will do) from www.cbfmobile.com (this only cost you that price of a txt to confirm you number)
3.When you recei
ve you logo wait for your phone to reboot
4.Then you will have to random logo you got
5.Next use FExplorer or SeleQ and go to c:Systemappsphoneoplogo and make a note of what the file is called.
6.Find the file you want as your logo make sure it is 97 X 25 pixels
7.Rename the file the same as the one u made a note of earlier, with the file extension as .mbm (don’t worry the phone will recognise it but the PC wont)
8.Copy the image to C:SystemAppsPhoneoplogo and paste over the old one
9.Reboot the phone and it should work

it's very easy to reset the operator logo, just go to the following directory (with FExplorer) :

delete any file in this directory and restart your phone, that's all !!

Just remove it with Fexplorer.

Doing so will make it UNABLE to UNinstall the program you installed and remove its *.sis file from here!!!! This is some kind of INSTALL log file!!

There are also FOLDERS in C:systemapps These folders contain the SAVEGAMES others saved options from PROGRAMS;
That you HAD or HAVE installed on the MMC Phone memmory.
Or Savegames from N-gage games that you played.
For example i had Ashen but I did sell it so iam not able to play it anymore WHY should I leave the savegame filling up my phones memmory??
You take a look @ the list below and you see that Ashen = 6R21 you open Fexplorer and go to C:systemapps in here DELETE the folder 6R21.

Loads of people are complaining that they cant type any alphabets. No matter how hard they press the "ABC" button, the alphabet mode just wont appear. This is apparently a known issue after you have installed wildskin. IF YOU STILL HAVE WILDSKIN INSTALLED, UNinstall Wildskin then follow the steps below.
- Open Fexplorer
- GOTO C:system
- DELETE System.ini
Now RESTART your phone system.ini will be automatically generated again and you would be able to input any alphabet again.

Options and press MAKE BACKUP FROM DEVICE MEMMORY
Now it will ask you YES or NO
DONT press yes YET!!
Now press your menu button and open Fexplorer
Go to C:systemdata
In here is the file CONTACTS.CDB
Press and HOLD the MENU button to switch back to the memmory backup program and NOW press yes as soon as it starts backing up
switch back to Fexplorer and COPY the file CONTACTS.CDB and PASTE it on E:
Now you have backuped your contacts
